Phinney Ridge Community Council hosting Friends of Green Lake’s Floating Wetlands Project tonight

by | Mar 1, 2022

Learn about Friends of Green Lake, an all volunteer group of lake users, from both within and beyond the Green Lake neighborhood, working to secure a healthy lake for wildlife and recreation.  It is led by a national lake scientist from a local consulting firm that has guided the water quality of Green Lake for over 10 years.  The City has awarded a grant of $50,000 to create two floating wetlands in the lake.  It will need the assistance of local volunteers to meet the matching grant requirements.

Three sites are being considered for two floating wetlands approximately 66  x 5 feet:    Duck Island located in shallow water nesting habitat that is lacking along the island’s shore, in addition to water quality benefits;  Densmore drain outfall located to filter pollutants discharged from the lake’s largest source of stormwater runoff, in addition to waterfowl benefits.

Learn more at tonight’s meeting, which will be conducted over Zoom tonight starting at 7pm.
