Community invited to view new art installation in Greenwood this weekend

by | May 14, 2021

This coming weekend, a group of artists will be doing another fence installation along Greenwood and 87th.  The installation is called “More Than a Name” and is a collaboration between 19+ artists, many of whom participated in the last installation that was created on the old Safeway building prior to demolition. That installation, along with the building, was destroyed last week to make way for the upcoming Hemlock Apartments.

Artist Carlos Aguilar, who goes by They Drift, is organizing and participating in the event. “For the third year at this location, a curated group of artists will come together to celebrate the democratization of urban art.” More Than a Name will be hosting 20 artists from around the northwest with the goal of turning the construction site into a giant collaborative work of art. The group intends to brighten up the Greenwood neighborhood with a wide array of color and design and bringing a visual attraction to the area. Drive by, honk, wave, or view at a safe distance as we paint!”

The site is owned and being developed by the real estate investment firm Washington Holdings, who worked extensively with the Greenwood Community on design, parking, and retail input. Washington Holdings VP Steffenie Evans relayed “We would welcome the community to watch the installation if they can do so in a COVID-safe, socially distanced manner. We look forward to offering the community something interesting to look at over the next two years while we are under construction.”

More Than A Name will be all day this Saturday and Sunday, May 15th and 16th.
