Power of Community virtual event to support our seniors on October 15

Join the PNA (on Zoom) to support our community’s seniors on October 15, 12-1 pm, at Power of Community: Alone Together. The ninth year of this annual fundraiser for PNA’s senior programs will explore the issue of social isolation and loneliness in the senior population, a health crisis that has intensified during the pandemic, and look at how PNA is responding.

Nearly one-fourth of adults aged 65 and older are considered to be socially isolated.  Older adults are at increased risk for loneliness and social isolation because they are more likely to face factors such as living alone, the loss of family or friends, and chronic illness.

The measures in place to protect people from the pandemic exacerbate these conditions, so the work of PNA’s Greenwood Senior CenterPNA Village, and Memory Loss Program is now more vital than ever to keeping our community’s seniors connected and well.

At the event, you’ll hear from Carla M. Perissinotto, M.D., M.H.S., associate professor in the Division of Geriatrics, Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco, who has gained national and international recognition for her research on the effects of loneliness on the health of older adults.

You’ll also hear from King County Councilmember Jeanne Kohl-Welles, “meet” members of the senior community, see some examples of what PNA has been up to, and learn about the impact PNA’s senior programs are having right now.
