Our Businesses in the Time of Covid: Levi Romero II, TITLE Boxing Club

by | Aug 21, 2020

Levi Romero II was not a boxer when he first opened TITLE Boxing Club Seattle Greenwood, on May 4, 2015. And don’t call it a gym; otherwise, you’ll have to do 10 push-ups. It’s a club where everyday people can get into shape in a high energy environment.

TITLE Boxing Club offers classes in boxing, kickboxing, and Muay Thai for ages 6 and up. Experience is not required as most people join with zero experience wanting to get their bodies into “Fighting shape” while learning a skill. Levi says, “Many people are interested in boxing, but find traditional boxing clubs intimidating.” TITLE Boxing Club follows a different philosophy where members can work with a personal trainer in the ring to assimilate sparing without the fear of getting hit in the face.  TITLE Boxing Club offers an inviting atmosphere for their 500 members and Levi says, “It’s the members that actually provide the motivation for us and other members.”

March 16 was the first day of closure as a result of COVID and the statewide mandate. Levi says, “As a fitness facility, we were one of the first businesses that had to close. We have great members, but the longer the shutdown lasts, they are slowly going away.” TITLE Boxing Club did apply and receive a PPP loan, an EIDL loan, and a grant from a local lender to stay in business.

TITLE Boxing Club is still closed, but plan to re-open in Phase 3. They will require online class reservations in order to ensure that they abide by the class size limitations imposed by the Governor. Any first time guests will have their own class to provide the best experience for them and current members. Levi says, “We have always done a good job at cleaning and disinfecting our club so we will just increase the frequency in which the club is cleaned.”

During these challenging times, most of the TITLE Boxing Club members have been incredibly supportive. Levi says, “Once we are able to re-open I have no doubt that they will continue to rally around us to help us rebound quickly. I believe that they will do this for all neighborhood businesses.”
