Neighborhood support for Black Lives Matter strike and march this Friday

Black Lives Matter Seattle King County is calling for a statewide general strike, protest march, and day of action in support of all Black lives in Washington state on Friday June 12th. There will be a silent march led by those who have been organizing, fighting, and working for our communities gathering at 1pm in Judkins Park and marching at 2pm to Jefferson Park.

Ken’s Market is collaborating with Opus Co. to create a protest sign-making station at Ken’s, along the north wall on 73rd. There will be limited sign-making supplies available, but please bring whatever you can to share with others. The sign-making station will open at noon on Friday.

Ken’s Market will be closed on Friday from 1 – 4pm to encourage their employees and community to join in.

There will also be some snacks and water generously provided by Ken’s Market for those going to the march, as will as a limited amount of face masks provided by the Phinney Neighborhood Association. While this is a community-building event, all are asked to respect social distancing and wear face masks while attending.

There is also a Greenwood Black Lives Matter family friendly protest on Friday starting at 5:30pm on 85th and Greenwood. At 5:45pm participants will be observing 8 minutes and 46 seconds of silence on bent knee. Please bring signs, wear a mask, respect social distancing, and participate however you can. Participants will not be marching or disrupting traffic at this protest.
