The 12th annual Festival of Fruit happens at Carkeek Park this Saturday. Sponsored by the Friends of Piper’s Orchard, Seattle Parks and Recreation, Carkeek Park Advisory Council, Seattle Tree Fruit Society and City Fruit, the public is invited to this free event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Nancy Malmgren Environmental Center, 950 NW Carkeek Park Rd. (visitors are encouraged to park below the learning center and walk up).

The Festival of Fruit includes cider pressing and tasting, live music, an apple pie contest, activities for kids, guided tours of the historic orchard and more.

Those wishing to enter the apple pie contest, bring your made-from-scratch pie to the festival by 10 a.m.

If you have an apple tree at home but don’t know what kind it is, bring some apples in for variety identification.
