North Transfer station now has an education room and a reuse donation center, open house celebration is Saturday

Seattle Public Utilities’ North Transfer Station by Gas Works Park has two additions – a Community Education Room and a Reuse Donation Center.
And they’re having an open house from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. this Saturday to show them off.
The North Transfer Station is at 1350 N. 34th St. It was completely renovated and reopened just over a year ago, with solar panels, sports court, and a neighborhood playground.

The new Community Education Room features 750 square feet of interactive exhibits where visitors can watch what happens to Seattle’s waste after it gets picked up from homes, see how a transfer station works, and learn how garbage collection in Seattle has evolved over the past 100 years.
The Reuse Donation Center, operated in partnership with Goodwill, is a drop-off location for reusable household goods and electronics. Conveniently located in the separate Recycling and Reuse building, the center allows customers to drop-off reusable goods for free, without having to weigh in at the scale house first.
The Community Education room and Reuse Donation center are open to the public during North Transfer stations operating hours, seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
