PhinneyWood Phestivus and monthly Artwalk this Friday, free trolley rides up and down Phinney-Greenwood avenues

by | Dec 4, 2017

Leave it to our neighborhood to celebrate the holidays with good cheer, monkeys and our very own version of Seinfeld’s “Festivus.”

PhinneyWood Phestivus runs from 6-10 p.m. this Friday, Dec. 8, with a special trolley to take holiday-goers up and down Phinney-Greenwood avenues to all the Art Up Artwalk and holiday venues.

The free Emerald City Trolley will have designated stops from Woodland Park Zoo’s west parking lot on North 55th Street up to North 87th Street. You can park for free in the Zoo’s north lot and at the Phinney Center at North 67th Street and Phinney Avenue. Trolley stops will be designated by A-Boards. Hop on and off as many times as you like. The round-trip takes about 20 minutes.

So, say, you could start your evening off at the zoo’s WildLights, then hop on the trolley and head north and stop at as many Artwalk venues as you like (more than 30 are participating this month), noticing the more than 200 LED holiday monkeys in business windows as you do your “monkey crawl.”

Some restaurants and other businesses will give you a discount if you wear an ugly Christmas sweater.

New this year, Morrow Lane in Piper Village in Greenwood (just east of Fred Meyer), will become Santa Claus Lane, featuring pet photos with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, live music, Seahawks mascot Blitz, donation drives and more.

PhinneyWood Phestivus is brought to you by Phinney Neighborhood Association business members, PhinneyWood Arts Council, Woodland Park Zoo and Piper Village.
