Greenwood Library looking for high school students to work 1-on-1 with 3rd graders for new ‘Learning Buddies’ program

The Greenwood Library is starting a new program called “Learning Buddies,” which will pair teens with 3rd graders who need help with literacy, math, logic skill building and other academic support.

Youth Services Librarian Jennifer Bisson is looking for a diverse group of 25 high school students. The program will be at North Seattle Boys and Girls Club, 8635 Fremont Ave. N.

The mandatory orientation session is from 10:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30. The fall session runs from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays from Oct. 18 to Dec. 6 (except Nov. 22). Spring session runs from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on Wednesdays from March 28 to May 16 (except April 11).

Interested teens should email completed applications to jennifer.bisson@spl.org or bring them to the Greenwood Library by Friday, Sept. 15. Interviews will be held Sept. 9-24. Preference will be given to teens who have been part of the Boys and Girls Club or a similar type of after-school program, but all teens are welcome to apply.
