Difficult Conversations Series: The Social Constructs of Race from 1-3 p.m. Friday at the Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St.
Pint & Dale — Songs of the Seven Seas at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N.
Seattle Folklore Society presents Uncle Bonsai at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., in the Brick Building. Tickets are $18, $16 SFS/PNA members and seniors and students; kids half price.
Uncle Bonsai performs original, contemporary folk/pop music. With their soaring and intricate 3-part vocal harmonies and biting humor, accompanied by only an acoustic guitar, Arni Adler, Patrice O’Neill, and Andrew Ratshin deliver poignantly unflinching portrayals of life, love, and a guy named Doug. The trio’s influences range from the Beatles to Stephen Sondheim. Some say Zappa cross-bred with Peter, Paul and Mary. Or maybe Loudon Wainwright III and the Roches. Three tightly tiered and adhered voices, acoustic guitar. That’s it. Nearly naked folk-pop for everyone.

You can watch the Seahawks play the Carolina Panthers on the big screen starting at 10:05 a.m. Sunday at the Central Library, 1000 4th Ave. Free. Although the Central Library does not open until noon on Sundays, the Fourth Avenue entrance, parking garage ($7) and auditorium will open early for the game.
Monday is a federal holiday, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, which means schools and banks will be closed. Metro will operate its Reduced Weekday and ‘When no UW’ schedules on Monday. Some routes will not operate at all, while others will have fewer trips than on a regular weekday. Most Metro and King County offices will be closed on Monday, including Metro’s Customer Information, Lost and Found and Pass Sales offices.
All Seattle Public Library branches will be closed on Monday. And the library’s computer systems will be upgraded that day, meaning the catalog will be searchable, but patrons won’t be able to log in, place holds, renew items or use other catalog features. SPL Mobile, access to e-books, free music downloads and many databases and applications also will be unavailable.
Seattle Parks and Recreation facilities that will be closed Monday:
- Community centers
- Environmental learning centers
- Indoor swimming pools
- Small craft centers
- Volunteer Park Conservatory
- Moorage Operations Office
All boat ramps; golf courses at Interbay, Jackson Park, Jefferson Park and West Seattle; and the Amy Yee Tennis Center will remain open.
If you’re heading across the Aurora Bridge this weekend, be aware that Washington State Department of Transportation bridge maintenance crews will close two lanes of southbound Aurora Avenue North across the bridge at 6:30 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday for bridge inspection work. One lane will remain open to traffic. All lanes will reopen by noon each day.
