Storytelling with Steph at 11 a.m. Friday at Phinney Books, 7405 Greenwood Ave. N.
North Pole on the Ridge, holiday food and toy drive, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Illumination Learning Studio, 7720 Greenwood Ave. N. Selfies with Santa, caroling with Mrs. Claus, letters to Santa, ornament making, cookies, gelato, cocoa, and picture ID cards with thumb prints from My ID Club. Free.
Early Stage Memory Loss Programs benefit concert with The All Present Song Circle and the OK Chorale from 2-4 p.m. Saturday at the Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St. Cookies and other treats served after the concert, plus a raffle for a quilt donated by the Modern Quilt Guild. $10 suggested donation. All proceeds benefit the memory loss programs at the GSC.
Caroling under Gary’s Auto Repair canopy singalong with the Phinney Neighborhood Community Chorus, 5-6 p.m. Saturday at 7418 Greenwood Ave. Hot cider, wood fire, song sheets provided. Hat will be passed to collect donations for Seattle Times Fund for the Needy. Winners of the Monkey See, Monkey Buy contest will be announced.
Seattle Folklore Society presents “Sugar & Spice: Holiday Cabaret with Angie Louise” at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N., in the Brick Building. Tickets are $18 general, $16 SFS/PNA members and seniors and students; kids half price.
Enjoy an evening of rich, bluesy vocals and end-of-year cheer from singer-songwriter-actress Angie Louise, whom City Arts Magazine calls “a singer, songwriter, actress and comedienne with fearsome chops.” Louise dishes out a soulful musical menu of seasonal treats, serving up her own wry and witty songs alongside off-Broadway satire, eccentric childhood cartoons, frolicsome funk from around the world, and offbeat favorites by Tom Waits and Joni Mitchell. A musician and writer, she’s penned screenplays and songs for two award-winning feature films: “Gory Gory Hallelujah,” in which she also starred, and “Switchmas,” starring Elliott Gould.
Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N., presents Winter’s Return – A Celebration in Music with Pint & Dale, Tania Opland and Mike Freman at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; Open Jazz Jam with Kenny Mandell (all levels welcome) from 2-4 p.m. Sunday; and A Child’s Christmas in Wales — Community Reading with Music at 7 p.m. Sunday.
Taproot Theatre has two holiday shows this month, “This Christmas” and “A Charlie Brown Christmas.” Tickets are available online.
Looking ahead to next week:
- Magician Evan Reynolds is hosting a family-friendly Refugee Fundraiser Show at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 22, at the PNA in Community Hall in the Brick Building. Anyone who donates to the International Rescue Committee can attend (there’s no minimum donation amount; just tell them at the door that you donated or show your donation receipt). All proceeds go to the IRC (performers are donating their time and the PNA has donated the space). Reserve your free tickets here. Reynolds has promised a second show, at 1 p.m. Tuesday, if the first show sells out. You can find updated information on the event’s Facebook page.
- All branches of the Seattle Public Library will be closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
