Gumshoe detective walk needs ‘test drivers’

The annual fundraising Gumshoe 5K Walk returns July 31-Aug. 9, taking participants on a scenic and fun walk through our neighborhood while looking for clues to complete the form for a chance to win prizes from neighborhood businesses. Since 2005, the Gumshoe has raised more than $38,000 for three Greenwood non-profits — Greenwood Senior Center, Greenwood Food Bank and Greenwood Elementary School PTA.

The event has been streamlined this year – dropping the Eatsy Street and GumShop photo clue “games within the game” — and now has additional administrative support from the Phinney Neighborhood Association, said Mike Veitenhans, who organizes the event and is known as the Gumshoe Answer Man that participants can call when they can’t figure out a clue.

Veitenhans is looking for two volunteers to “test drive” this year’s walk, which involves solving the draft clues while Veitenhans follows along and takes notes so he can tweak the clues into their final form. In return for their time and since they’ve done the walk, the volunteers will receive free Gumshoe entry forms and are eligible to win one of 10 $100 gift cards to local businesses being offered as prizes this year.

If you’d like to be a “test driver,” email AnswerMan@DoTheGumshoe.org.

(Note: The Gumshoe is a PhinneyWood sponsor.)
