Phinney Neighborhood Chorus raises entire year’s budget for Haiti school in one night

by | Jun 22, 2015

More than 200 people attended Saturday’s Phinney Neighborhood Chorus concert to raise funds for the George Marcellus School in Haiti, raising $7,620 – enough to cover the school’s entire budget for one year.

The chorus’s motto is “Sing local, act global.”

The school’s annual budget is $6,582. Of that, $4,902 is budgeted for teacher salaries, $180 for school supplies, and $1,500 for one meal per day for each child (sometimes their only meal of the day).

The chorus has raised more than $90,000 for two Haitian schools in 12 years.

Online donations are still accepted through the Mona Foundation.
