Makeda Coffee expanding focus, changing name to Makeda & Mingus

by | Jun 8, 2015

Makeda Coffee owner Prashanthi Reddy is expanding the focus of her coffee shop at 153 N. 78th St. and will rename it Makeda & Mingus. (Regulars will recognize Mingus as her adorable and very friendly dog.) Makeda & Mingus will now also offer wine, beer, mac-and-cheese, sandwiches, salads and home cooked Indian food on Thursday nights.
“Makeda Coffee laid the groundwork to be the neighborhood gathering spot. Makeda and Mingus will continue to focus on coffee and community while expanding our focus to include wine, beer and arts and crafts as well as promoting amateur and/or local artists,” Reddy said in a press release. “We really do believe in having fun and making art should be fun. Regardless of the medium, we want people to come and write, paint, sing and join in the laughter.”
Reddy is hosting a special launch party from 6-10 p.m. this Sunday, June 14 (guests may arrive anytime during that four-hour window), for $20 per person (gratuity included). Reservations must be made through the Dyne mobile app.
The menu for Sunday includes buffet-style snacks of samosas, red wine chocolate cake, naan pizzas topped with savory curries and fresh greens, and house specialty cocktails.
