Holiday cheer, story time, bookstore birthday and live music in Greenwood-Phinney Ridge this weekend

Here are a few highlights of events in our neighborhood this weekend. Check our Events calendar any time for more.

Phinney Books, 7405 Greenwood Ave. N., presents its weekly Friday story time at 11 a.m. with the effervescent Steph, who will wear her traditional Grinch jammies and Seahawks Santa hat, and read Christmas and Hannukah stories, and hand out juice and cookies.

“Appalachian Christmas Homecoming” continues at Taproot Theater, 204 N. 85th St.

Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N., has a packed weekend, including its 5th Anniversary All-Day Celebration on Saturday. New and used books will be on sale, and there will be treats and music all day, including a special concert in the evening featuring Greenwood’s Little Sara and the Night Owls.

Couth Buzzard Books staff.

Aside from the all-day celebration, Couth Buzzard is hosting its Classical Guitar Cabaret at 7:30 p.m. Friday, and Open Jazz Jam with Kenny Mandell (all levels welcome) from 2-4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The Greenwood Senior Center, 525 N. 85th St., is hosting a very special benefit concert for its Early Stage Memory Loss programs from 2-4 p.m. Saturday. The OK Chorale and the senior center’s own All Present (a song circle for people living with early stage memory loss) will sing holiday and winter favorites, plus there’s a cookie exchange (please bring a dozen cookies to share). Suggested donation of $10.

The community is invited to the second annual Caroling under Gary’s Canopy at Gary’s Greenwood Auto Repair, 7418 Greenwood Ave. N., at 5 p.m. Saturday. This is a fun event with a fire pit and lots of good cheer with neighbors.

Seattle Harmony Voice Lab from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Sunday at the Phinney Neighborhood Center, 6532 Phinney Ave. N.
