Here are two interesting events in the neighborhood this evening:

Port & Anchor, a coffee shop and community space at 503 N. 50th St. by the zoo, is hosting an all-ages open-mic event called The Sound from 7-9 p.m. Thursday. A $5 donation covers the door fee; drinks available for purchase. You can sign up in advance by emailing [email protected]; sign-up inside begins at 6:30 p.m. Slots are on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Couth Buzzard Books presents local author Esther Altshul Helfgott, reading from her new book, “Listening to Mozart: Poems of Alzheimer’s,” at 7 p.m. Thursday at 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. She also is the author of “Dear Alzheimer’s: A Caregiver’s Diary & Poems.”
