Greenwood Park celebrates new sport court at Sunday afternoon party

by | Jul 18, 2012

Volunteer group Vision Greenwood Park is celebrating the completion of the new sport court at Greenwood Park, 602 N. 87th St., by throwing a party from 3-6 p.m. Sunday. There’ll be live music, Santi’s Kitchen food truck, and Bluebird Microcreamery ice cream.

Mayor Michael McGinn and King County Councilman Larry Phillips will cut the ceremonial ribbon. Games will be ongoing – basketball, soccer, and a yoga class led by Whole Life Yoga instructors.

The new play space at Greenwood Park is nearly complete. The asphalt court has been poured and the goals were installed this week. The innovative ‘freegame goals’ incorporate a basketball hoop above a soccer goal, so the court can be used both sports as well as street hockey. Side walls on the goals prevent missed shots from sailing out of the courtyard. The intent of the design is to create a flexible play space that can be used for different games to make it appealing to many different kids.
