Northwest Chamber Chorus performs “The Elements” concerts this weekend

The Northwest Chamber Chorus will perform “The Elements” concerts on Saturday and Sunday at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church, 7500 Greenwood Ave. N. Saturday’s concert is at 7:30 p.m.; Sunday’s concert is at 3 p.m.

This program with music from around the globe and over many centuries, features songs inspired by our physical world and composed by Lauridsen, Monteverdi, Palestrina, Grau, Dawson, Grandage and Tichelli. Selections from this concert will be sung by the Chamber Chorus during their July 2012 tour to Slovakia and Hungary.
Songs about the earth include Earth Song by Frank Ticheli, Three Australian Bush Songs (Dawn, Birds, Sunset) by Iain Grandage, and Kasar Mie La Gaji (The Earth is Tired) by Venezualan composer Alberto Grau. The element of air is represented by Ezekial Saw de Wheel spiritual by William Dawson, Sure on This Shining Night by Morten Lauridsen, and Ecco mormorar l’onde by Claudio Monteverdi.
Songs with a fire theme include Fyer, Fyer! madrigal by Thomas Morely, Hotaru Koi (Ho, Firefly) Japanese song arranged by Ro Ogura, and two Fire Songs by Morten Lauridson on Italian Renaissance poems, including Se per havervi, oime and Io piango. Music with an element of water features At the River by Aaron Copland, Super Flumina Babilonis by Giovanni P. da Palestrina and Weep, O Mine Eyes by John Bennet.

Tickets are $22 general, $17 seniors, $12 students and active singers. (Children ages 6-12 are free with an accompanying adult.) You can buy tickets online or at the door.
