Two neighborhood galleries celebrate birthdays during Friday’s Artwalk

Tasty art gallery in Phinney Ridge is turning 2, and Bherd Studios in Greenwood is celebrating its 5th birthday during this Friday’s monthly Art Up Artwalk.
Sheri Hauser, co-owner of the very funky Tasty at 7513 Greenwood Ave N., says the gallery has sold original art from nearly 200 regional artists and designers, as well as more than 2,000 bobble-heads and other toys designed by co-owner and Funko creative director Sean Wilkinson (Hauser’s husband).
Tasty features paintings, sculptures, jewelry, mosaics, scarves, hats and hair accessories, and more. The March Artwalk show is titled “A Strange Life,” and features mixed-media paintings by Vern White.

Bherd Studios Gallery will celebrate its fifth birthday with a new exhibit and book signing titled “Look Up Here.” The exhibit features 33 Pacific Northwest artists. The exhibit opens Friday and runs through April 27; the book signing is during next month’s Artwalk on April 13.

The exhibit will be on display through Friday, April 27 and includes Seattle artists: 179, EGO, dear earthling, Justin Hillgrove, Larkin, ninjagrl, Augie Pagan, Kate Protage, Chris Sheridan, Solace, Joe Vollan, Redd Walitzki and more.

The belief that the Seattle art scene is ripe for recognition has been Bherd’s main mission, promoting the promising talents of local urban and contemporary artists. While the gallery has shown well over a hundred and twenty different artists throughout the last 5 years, these 33 artists have been especially productive within their own careers and have been involved within the art community through creating events and supporting other artists along the way. Many of these artists have also participated in multiple projects, exhibits, and curated shows at the gallery, which truly shows their passion for their work and for their peers.

New to the monthly Artwalk is Chocolat Vitale, a chocolate store and event space at 6257 3rd Ave NW. Seattle Artist Joe Reno will present his recent works from March 9-31, with an opening reception during Friday night’s Artwalk.

Joe Reno is a well-known Northwest artist with pieces in the Henry Art Gallery, Tacoma Art Museum, Bellevue Art Museum, the Museum of Northwest Art and at his alma mater, Ballard High School. The Kirkland Arts Center held a retrospective of his Works on Paper in 2007.
Joe’s recent paintings and sculptures at Chocolat Vitale are influenced by his natural surroundings, including Golden Gardens, Green Lake, and Mt. Rainier, which is visible from his Sunset Hill home.
