Repaving of 85th Street and Greenwood Avenue starts this week

by | Oct 17, 2011

The year-long project to repave a two-mile stretch of 85th Street from I-5 to 15th Avenue NW, and Greenwood Avenue North from North 85th to North 73rd streets, begins this week.
First up is rebuilding the intersection of North 80th Street and Greenwood Avenue North in concrete pavement, including new curb ramps, sidewalks and textured crosswalks. Construction on the intersection will last about four weeks. While most work will occur on weekdays, the entire intersection will be closed to all traffic on the weekends of Oct. 21-24 and Oct. 28-31.
From Seattle Department of Transportation:

Weekdays between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m.

  • The intersection will be reduced to one lane in each direction
  • Drivers should plan ahead and adjust their routes accordingly as traffic congestion is expected

Weekend intersection closures begin at 6 p.m. Friday and continue through 5 a.m. Monday for the weekends of October 21-24 and October 28-31 (weather permitting).

  • The closure extends on Greenwood Avenue N between N 79th Street and N 81st Street and on N 80th Street between Dayton Avenue N and First Avenue NW
  • Drivers should follow signed detours utilizing N 65th Street, 3rd Avenue NW and N 85th Street

Metro Transit riders can expect weekend transit detours and stop closures; to sign up for transit alerts, sign up here: https://www.kingcounty.gov/metro/alerts.

Pedestrian access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times. There may be temporary sidewalk and driveway closures, noise, dust, and nighttime light impacts.
