Neighborhood businesses nominated for KING 5’s Best of Western Washington contest

by | Oct 6, 2011

A bunch of Greenwood and Phinney Ridge businesses have been nominated for KING 5’s Evening Magazine Best of Western Washington contest. We don’t have time to search all the categories to make a comprehensive list, but we do know of several that have been nominated, including Frederick’s of Greenwood, A Heavenly Ceremony, Green Bean Coffeehouse, Tasty art gallery and Strut shoe store.
Pat Stimac of A Heavenly Ceremony tells us that she and her husband, Kent Buttars, won the contest two years ago, and placed third last year.
Check out the poll here and vote for your favorites by Sunday, Oct. 9. And please let us know what other businesses are nominated by leaving a note below in comments.
Crystal Kosta, owner of Frederick’s of Greenwood hair salon, sent out a plea to us and all her customers, explaining why small neighborhood businesses really need the exposure that a contest like this can bring.

After 65 years of being in business, we have been nominated for our first accolade. Evening Magazine’s Best of Western Washington. I was thrilled beyond belief at this news! But then I was quickly humbled when I realized I was up against THE MAN (chain salons). Last time I checked the polls our salon was in 3rd, 7 Salon was in 2nd and Gene Juarez was in 1st.
This David and Goliath story can end with the little guy winning. How? Anyone who believes in Seattle small businesses, anyone who believes in a mom and pop shop actually surviving, anyone who believes in your local neighborhood joint staying open even though corporate outfits move in down the street should vote for the underdog. Don’t get me wrong, if you love Gene Juarez you should vote for them. But if you don’t love them and your salon that you go to isn’t in 3rd place . . . . . . then vote for Frederick’s.
