Create your own backyard habitat

Woodland Park Zoo is once again offering classes on how to turn your backyard into a wildlife habitat.
Experts from Seattle Audubon, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife, Washington Native Plant Society and Woodland Park Zoo will explain how to attract birds, butterflies and other wildlife to your backyard, select and care for native plants, manage your backyard without using chemicals, place feeders, water features and bird houses, and get your yard certified.

Classes are designed to build on each other as a series, but may also be taken separately.
Introduction to Backyard Habitat: Site Analysis and Design: 7- 9 p.m., Wed., March 2.
Spring Plants and Planting: 1-3 p.m., Sunday, March 13.
Butterflies and Bees: 7-9 p.m., Thursday, March 31.
Attracting Birds to Your Yard: 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, April 12.
Water Features for Wildlife: 7-9 p.m., Tuesday, April 26.
Cost is $25 per person per class, or $100 per person for the five-part series if you register before 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 23.
