Weekend events in Phinney-Greenwood

by | May 23, 2014

Not a whole lot of local events in Greenwood and Phinney Ridge this weekend, as many people will head to the Seattle Center for the big annual Folklife Festival. About 10,000 people are expected today, and another 25,000 each day for the rest of the weekend, meaning a lot more traffic and people on the buses, so plan accordingly.

Speaking of buses, Metro Transit will operate a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day. Metro bus routes 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 13, 24, 33, and the RapidRide D Line go directly to the Seattle Center. Routes 5, 16, 26, 28 and the RapidRide E Line are within walking distance.

Northwest Clarinet Choir Free Concert from 4-5 p.m. Sunday at Woodland Park United Methodist Church, 302 N. 78th St.

Acoustic Sundays Open Mic and Seattle Singer-Songwriter Showcase from 7:30-11:30 p.m. Sunday at Tim’s Tavern, 602 N. 105th St.

On Memorial Day, Evergreen Washelli Funeral Home and Cemetery will host its annual Veterans Day Event, at 11111 Aurora Ave. N. Beginning at 7 a.m., flags will be placed on each of the 5,000 marble markers in the Veterans Section. A concert begins at 1:30 p.m., followed by a commemorative service at 2 p.m.

Garbage, recycling and yard waste pickup will be on a normal schedule on Monday. Put your containers out by 7 a.m. You can report a Monday missed garbage, yard waste or recycling collection after 8 a.m. on Tuesday by calling 206-684-3000 or online. The City of Seattle’s South Transfer Station is open extended hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. seven days a week (remember, the North Transfer Station is closed for renovation). The South Transfer Station is at 130 South Kenyon Street in South Park.
