Senior Center programming for early stage memory loss

by | Sep 7, 2010

The Greenwood Senior Center is expanding its programming for people with early stage memory loss by adding “The Gathering Place” from 1-4 p.m. every first and third Thursdays of the month.

The afternoon will include exercise and movement including line dancing, strength training and yoga. Discussion, creative expressions and social connection while enjoying some delicious and healthy afternoon refreshments will make this program a special, warm and inviting place for those living with early stage memory loss (ESML). It also provides some respite care for the caregiver.
This program, being developed by the GSC’s social worker Carin Mack, MSW and Mari Becker, MSW, will join two other ESML program, a support group and an ESML Caregivers Support group which has an art program attached to it to enable the caregivers to participate in their group.

The Senior Center is holding an open house from 1:30-3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16. The Gathering Place begins on Thursday, Oct. 7. Cost is $35 per afternoon. Participants must have a screening with Carin Mack first, and there is no drop-in available. For more information or to set up a screening, call 206-297-0875.
