by | Jan 16, 2010

9:20 p.m.: We just spoke with Silver, who is also posting information in the Forum, about police searching for a man who implied he had a weapon at the Fred Meyer on North 85th Street at 9:10 p.m. According to Silver, who is listening to police scanner traffic, the police are searching for a white male in his late 20s, 5′ 4″, brown eyes, scruffy beard, wearing a brown or grey knit cap, a brown cloth jacket (possibly a Carhartt style). He left out of the parking garage.
The K-9 unit is enroute. Dale is in the area and says there are numerous police cars around Fred Meyer and Greenwood Market, and on surrounding streets.

Update 9:35 p.m.:Dale says police have detained a man near Sandel Park at N. 90th St. and 1st Ave. NW, but an officer on the scene told him it’s probably not the suspect. Dale says the officer told him they are stopping everybody that looks remotely like the suspect description.
Update 9:50 p.m.: Dale is at Fred Meyer now and says an officer is checking a downstairs cash register for prints, and that the store manager confirmed to Dale that a man did rob the store, but wouldn’t say more.
Update 10 p.m.: Silver says scanner traffic now says the suspect is tall and thin, wearing a North Face jacket, with a grey hoodie underneath.
