Greenwood Collective celebrates ‘Music Rocks’

by | Oct 7, 2009

Two themed exhibits open at The Greenwood Collective, 8537 Greenwood Ave. N., Suite 1, on Friday during the monthly Art-Up Greenwood Phinney art walk from 6-9 p.m. as part of “Music Rocks.”
“Art Axes” at Urban Light Studios features artist-painted guitars from award-winning Seattle illustrator Doug Keith; a rare solo performance by legendary session player and accompanist Joel Tepp; and rock posters by Tom DeWar, Seattle-based rock poster designer, screen printer, illustrator and graphic designer for bands including The Decemberists.

Doug began guitars as a hobby in between assignments as a professional children’s book illustrator. The concept for illustrating guitars provides Doug with an opportunity to combine his interests in art and music. He routinely prowls swap meets, flea markets and yard sales for used, neglected or damaged guitars to give them new life as art!
Rock & Roll, science fiction, blues and fantasy are only a few of the themes Doug has explored for his creative “ART AXES”. Doug’s guitars have been displayed at The Experience Music Project museum, local art galleries and the historic Paramount Theatre.

“Snaps” by Rabid Child Images is a photographic exhibition featuring portraits of Seattle hip hop artists on display in Brand Vibes, in association with Out for Stardom, in the underground of The Greenwood Collective.
Both exhibits will be up through Nov. 11.
