New Fire Station 21 plans undergo environmental review

The land use sign has gone up in front of Fire Station 21 at the corner of Greenwood Avenue and 73rd St. asking for comments on the project’s environmental review.

As we’ve reported previously, the current station will be demolished, and so will a house and garage behind it, to make way for a bigger, two-story station. The new station will be 8,320 square feet, with more room for equipment and more comfortable living quarters for the fire fighters.
Design will continue through 2009, with construction expected to begin in early 2010. Fire Station 21 will move five blocks south to an empty lot during construction.
