Schools close in advance of snow

by | Dec 17, 2008

10:40 a.m. update: Anyone seeing snow? It’s beginning to sound like we might not see anything until the afternoon and when it comes itĀ could be a mix of snow and rain. The bad news is it’s expected to drop down into the 20s tonight, so plan for ice late tonight and Thursday morning. In other words, it is not going to be fun if you’re trying to go down any hills or get over Phinney Ridge.

6:45 a.m. update: Seattle Public Schools just decided to close for the day. It’s snowing north of Everett and south of Tacoma, but snow here is not expected until mid to late morning.

The National Weather Service’s latest update is still calling for up to 2 inches in Seattle today and 2 to 5 inches by tonight, which will certainly complicate the evening commute. Metro is still operating on its standard schedule, but Microsoft’s Connector buses have canceled their routes. Stay tuned for major updates throughout the day.

In the meantime, what are you up to? Did you get a snow day from work, or are you taking the day off because your kids aren’t in school?
