Keep those storm drains clear

by | Oct 29, 2008

The City of Seattle is asking residents to help keep storm drains clear of leaves and other debris to avoid flooding problems. Fall and winter weather often clogs drains quickly, leading to water backups on some roads.

City crews recently inspected 78,000 storm drains around the city and cleaned one-third of them. The city is asking residents to join their Adopt-a-Drain program to keep them clear year-round (200 volunteers have signed up to maintain 800 storm drains since last year). Join up and you’ll get free leaf pickup, plus everything you need to keep drains clear: gloves, bags, rakes, brooms, safety vests and shovels.
