Phinney Ridge stabbing suspect ordered to undergo mental health evaluation

John Christopher Altshuler, who is charged with stabbing two neighbors on Mother’s Day, was ordered today to undergo a mental health evaluation by an expert from Western State Hospital.
The mental health evaluation is scheduled to take place at the King County Jail, where Altshuler remains on $250,000 bail. The Order for Pretrial Competency Evaluation requires that he be evaluated by a developmental disabilities professional.
A competency hearing has been scheduled for June 9.
Altshuler is charged with two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, Malicious Mischief in the Second Degree, and Violation of Anti-Harassment Order after stabbing his two neighbors when they confronted him over slashing tires between 3rd and 6th avenues on NW 74th Street. Both men were treated at Northwest Hospital and released a few hours later.
