Flying Bike Cooperative Brewery will have its grand opening at 8570 Greenwood Ave. N. on Saturday, Aug. 15 (but we’ve been told they’ll open their doors for a sneak peek during Saturday’s Summer Streets).

Flying Bike’s volunteers have spent the past four years gathering up more than 1,500 founding members to help fund the creation of Washington’s first cooperative brewery.

The Co-op’s Member Driven Beer program allows member — owners to submit and vote for the beers that are brewed and served in the tasting room. One of the beers created from this program, Dan Schmidt’s Bike Rye’d Saison, was selected to appear at the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) later this year. In May, Flying Bike signed on Kevin Forhan as Head Brewer. Kevin was most recently Regional Brewer for RAM Restaurant & Breweries and has also held positions at Elysian Fields, Big Time and Pike.
