One-man neighborhood cleanup crew organizes cleanup event this Saturday

by | Jul 22, 2014

For several months, one man has been single-handedly trying to clean up the streets of Greenwood and Phinney Ridge. Todd Chaisson picks up trash every day as he walks to and from work between North 60th and 83rd streets. He’s usually out there between 7-9 a.m. and 5-7 p.m. five days a week, alternating sides on each trip. He’s even got a Facebook page with maps of his route and information on what tools work best.

He started a crowdfunding campaign to raise money for tools, including a trash grabber, trash can cart and bags, broom, etc. So far he’s raised $385 of his $1,000 goal. He’s donating half to local non-profits, including the Greenwood Food Bank.

Now he’s organizing a neighborhood cleanup day, set for this Saturday, July 26. He’s hoping to get about a dozen people to come out and help. He’s reserved some equipment from the city’s Adopt a Street Program. If you’re interested in helping out, you can leave him a message through either the GoFundMe site or his Facebook page. If all goes well, he’s hoping to organize monthly neighborhood cleanups.
