Volunteers paint North 63rd Street/Aurora Avenue underpass, fundraising still underway

by | Jul 21, 2014

A group of volunteers spent last weekend painting the new North 63rd Street/Aurora Avenue underpass mural. Using local artist Michiko Tanaka’s “Animal Silhouettes” design, children and adults painted the north side of the underpass.

Fundraising is still underway. So far, $3,235.40 has been raised of the $5,000 goal. That will pay for all the paint, a graffiti-proof coating and five years’ worth of maintenance. Ten neighborhood businesses have collection boxes, and each business will match customer donations up to $250. Five businesses have reached or are close to that $250 as of press time. The other five businesses are still collecting donations: Phinney Market Pub & Eatery, Starbucks, Red Mill, A-1 Piano and Naked City. Donations also can be made online through the Phinney Neighborhood Association, but they won’t be matched.
