Live music, literacy, musical celebration and a garden party in Phinney-Greenwood this weekend

Here are a few highlights of what’s happening in the neighborhood this weekend. Check our Events calendar any time for more.

Laura Lagerstedt & Pink Camel and Alice Howe in concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday at Couth Buzzard Books, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N. On Saturday, Couth Buzzard presents Grimm’s Adult Fairy Tales at 7:30 p.m.

Phinney Neighborhood Association Garden Party — Plant Exchange, Garden Art Sale & Blueberry Plant Sale – from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday in the PNA’s upper parking lot, 6532 Phinney Ave. N. Free. Bring your extra plants to share with other garden lovers (please have a tag with plant identification). Master Gardeners and Composters will answer questions and there will be an Edible Landscaping presentation at 11:30 a.m. Five garden artists will be selling their wares, from stained glass to furniture.

First Book-Seattle Story Time from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday at The Bathhouse Theater at Green Lake, 7312 West Green Lake Dr. N. Local celebrities will read from their favorite childhood books to help raise funds for child literacy. Admission is free but donations are used to buy books for King County children who need them most. (The suggested donation is $15, which buys six books.) Every person/family that attends will receive a new Elephant and Piggie book by wildly-popular author Mo Willems. Featured guests include Ride the Ducks Captain Bjorn Toorun, children’s author Nancy White Carlstrom, firefighter Jon Hernandez, children’s songwriter and entertainer Nancy Stewart, ice cream entrepreneur Molly Moon, Rat City Roller Girls Sintripetal Force & Mad ScrapHer, and other Seattle sports stars.

Music Center of the Northwest celebrates its 25th anniversary with an open house, barbecue and other events all day Saturday at 901 N. 96th St. In the evening, the center’s Festival Choir performs from 7-8:30 p.m.

Tim’s Tavern, 602 N. 105th St., presents Acoustic Sundays Open Mic and Seattle Singer-Songwriter Showcase at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
