Seattle Canoe & Kayak Club hosting three open houses

by | Mar 25, 2013

The Seattle Canoe & Kayak Club is hosting three open houses for children in fifth grade and up. The open houses are from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, April 13 and May 18, at the Small Craft Center on Green Lake.

Get to see the competitive Junior Team finish their training session, meet the coaches of this exciting sport and then climb into the boats with our team members to get a feel for what it is like to be in an Olympic style Sprint Kayak or Canoe. You need to bring a parent/guardian to sign the waiver and bring a change of clothes in case you get wet! Questions? Contact Tami Oki at 524-1116 or [email protected] or the Green Lake Small Craft Center at 684-4074.

This sport is great for cross training, requires no previous experience and can be done all year long. Lots of the team members also participate in other sports as the practice schedules are very flexible. SCKC has paddlers who are just interested in the fun and physical health it promotes, and we also fielded several age-group 2012 National Champions. It can be a fit for almost anyone! You must be able to pass the city float test before joining the club.

Beginner classes begin in April, the full schedule can be seen at Youth Kayak – Seattle Parks & Recreation. Choose “Programs” then “Boating” then “youth-kayak.”
