Farmers market, live music and lots of art in Greenwood-Phinney this weekend

Looks like it will be a lovely Friday night to be out and about in the neighborhood. There’s plenty of art and live music going on, plus the farmers market and special sales on books and children’s gear. Here are a few events happening in Greenwood and Phinney Ridge this weekend; check out our Events calendar any time for more.
The Phinney Farmers Market runs from 3-7 p.m. in the Phinney Neighborhood Association’s lower parking lot.
The monthly Art Up Artwalk runs along Greenwood Avenue from North 62nd to 87th streets from 6-9 p.m. Friday. Dozens of art galleries and businesses are hosting artists in various mediums.
Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Café, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N., presents a Pacific NW Folklore Society Coffeehouse Concert with Curtis & Loretta at 7:30 p.m. Friday; a Phil Ochs Tribute Concert with Gary Kanter, Adena Atkins, Matt Price, Casey Graham, Jessica Lynne and Theo Dzielak at 7:30 p.m. Saturday; and Aarf! in concert at 6 p.m. Sunday.
Seattle Folklore Society kicks off its fall concert season on Saturday night with Uncle Bonsai (photo below), starting at 7:30 p.m. at the Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. N. Tickets are $15; $13 SFS/PNA members, seniors, students; $7 children. Reservations and more information at at 206-528-8523 or www.seafolklore.org.

Uncle Bonsai performs original, contemporary folk/pop music. With their soaring and intricate 3-part vocal harmonies and biting humor, accompanied by only an acoustic guitar, Arni Adler, Patrice O’Neill, and Andrew Ratshin deliver poignantly unflinching portrayals of life, love, and a guy named Doug. The trio’s influences range from the Beatles to Stephen Sondheim. This concert will feature lots of new material from the upcoming CD “New Jobs for America.”

Half Price Books Fall Sale at their Greenwood warehouse, 9241 Greenwood Ave. N., from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Everything will be $3 or less on Saturday, with prices dropping to $1 or less on Sunday.
Beppa Studio is hosting its fall Button and Fabric sale from 10 a.m. to p.m. Friday and Saturday at 7700 6th Ave. NW.
Ballard Preschool Co-op’s Gently Used Kids Gear Sale is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday at the PNA, 6532 Phinney Ave. N.
Seattle Parks and Recreation is holding its last life jacket sale of the season from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at Evans Pool, 7201 E. Green Lake Dr. N. The cost for sizes infant to youth large is $20, and for teens to adult size XXL is $30.
Shepherd’s Counseling Services is hosting the second annual free “Turn the Light On” community event against child sexual abuse, from 7-9 p.m. at Woodland Park Zoo.
Matt the Electrician performs in concert with John Elliott at 8 p.m. Friday at Empty Sea Studios, 6300 Phinney Ave. N. Tickets: $15 advance, $18 at the door. Benny Sidelinger performs at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets: $12 advance, $15 at the door.
Seattle Family Dance is at 3 p.m. Sunday in the PNA’s Community Hall in the Brick Building.
