Not to0 many events around the neighborhood this weekend, as everyone gets ready to head back to school.

The Phinney Farmers Market is from 3-7 p.m. Friday in the upper parking lot of the Phinney Neighborhood Association, 6532 Phinney Ave. N. Fresh fruits, veggies, pasta, bread, chocolates, meat, flowers, pizza, tamales and quesadillas, and lots more.

Friday night at 7:30 p.m. is Jazz First Fridays with Kenny Mandell and Don Berman, at Couth Buzzard Books Espresso Buono Café, 8310 Greenwood Ave. N.

On Saturday and Sunday, The Chocolate Shoe Box, 7410 Greenwood Ave. N., is hosting a Vegan Bake Sale to benefit Precious Life Animal Sanctuary and the Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest.

Monday is Labor Day, but Seattle Public Utilities will collection garbage, yard waste and recycling on its normal schedule. The North Recycling and Disposal station at 1350 N. 34th St. in Fremont/Wallingford will be open normal business hours from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

But Metro Transit will be on a Sunday schedule on Monday.

If you’re heading downtown, the Alaskan Way Viaduct southbound will have lane closures from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday so Seattle Department of Transportation (SDOT) can remove and repair expansion joints. Two of the three lanes will be closed at a time.

And it’s Bumbershoot weekend at the Seattle Center, so expect a lot of traffic.
